Lacey Spears's struggle seemed to be every mother's worst nightmare.  From the day he was born, her son Garnett was afflicted with multiple illnesses.  She shared all of his struggles on social media along with her struggles to be a perfect single mom. Apparently a courageous and selfless mother whose entire life was dedicated to her son, Lacey gained an empathetic and admiring online audience.

But when Garnett died from a sodium overdose at just 5 years old, Lacey was arrested for murder.  According to authorities, Lacey had Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy and she was making Garnett sick to gain attention and sympathy.

Join us at the quiet end for a frank discussion of Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome and Lacey's story, which some have called a textbook example of the syndrome, with the worst possible outcome.  Dick will lend us his expertise in Pediatrics as well as a fine New York beer: Three Philosophers by Brewery Ommegang.

On December 6, 1991, Jennifer Harbison and Eliza Thomas, both 17, were scrubbing down counters and sweeping the floors at a yogurt shop in Austin, Texas, anticipating going home and having a sleepover.  Jennifer's 15-year-old sister , Sarah, and her 13-year-old friend, Amy Ayers, were sitting at one of the tables in the shop, waiting for the girls to finish work. But something happened that night that would end their young lives and change the lives of a community. The mysteries and horrors of this crime still linger today.

The beer on tap is Bishop's Barrel 15 from St. Arnold's Brewery in Houston.
